SEO & AI Search Optimization

Ranked by Google.
Cited by the machines.

Search stopped being ten blue links. Buyers now ask an assistant and take the answer it gives them. We build the technical foundation, the content and the authority that get your business ranked in classic search and named inside AI-generated answers.

The Vocabulary

SEO, AEO, GEO, AIO, LLMO, decoded

The industry invented five acronyms in about eighteen months. Here is the honest version: one of them is the classic discipline, and the rest are largely competing names for the same new one.

SEOSince 1997

Search Engine Optimization

Earning visibility in the traditional ranked list of blue links. Technical health, content relevance, site experience and authority decide where you land on the results page.

AEOCoined ~2019

Answer Engine Optimization

Optimizing to be the answer rather than a link, featured snippets, People Also Ask, voice assistants and AI overviews that resolve the question on the spot.

GEOCoined 2023

Generative Engine Optimization

Getting your brand cited inside answers written by generative models, AI Overviews, ChatGPT-class assistants, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini. The measurable outcome is citation share, not rank position.

AIO / LLMO / AISO2024 onward

AI Optimization · LLM Optimization · AI Search Optimization

Competing labels for the same discipline as GEO. Different agencies and vendors coined different acronyms; in practice they describe one job, making your business the source an AI system trusts and repeats.

The short answer: AEO, GEO, AIO, LLMO and AI search optimization are competing labels for one job, making your business the source an AI system retrieves, trusts and repeats. SEO is the foundation all of them are built on. We do not sell them as five retainers. We sell one strategy.

How It Works

What actually happens when someone asks an AI about your industry

A large language model is a prediction engine. It was trained on an enormous body of text to predict what comes next, which is why it writes fluently, and why, on its own, it has no live knowledge of your business. Modern assistants solve that by searching the web in real time and reading the results before they answer. That process, retrieval-augmented generation, is the door your brand walks through.

  1. 01

    Tokenization

Your page is broken into tokens, word fragments the model can do math on. Clear, plainly written sentences survive this step intact; jargon-stuffed marketing prose fragments into noise.

  2. 02

    Embedding

Each passage becomes a vector: a long list of numbers describing its meaning. Two passages about the same idea land near each other in that space even if they share no keywords. This is why topical depth beats keyword density.

  3. 03

    Retrieval (RAG)

When someone asks a question, the assistant does not recall your page from memory. It runs a live search, pulls the top passages by vector and keyword match, and loads them into its context window. If you are not retrieved, you cannot be cited.

  4. 04

    Synthesis

The model predicts an answer one token at a time, grounded in the passages it retrieved. Content that is self-contained, factual and quotable gets lifted verbatim; content that requires the whole page for context gets skipped.

  5. 05

    Citation

The system attaches sources to the claims it used. Being cited drives qualified traffic and, more importantly, third-party endorsement from a tool the buyer already trusts.

Training data is frozen

A model's baked-in knowledge has a cutoff date and no awareness of your new location, new pricing or new service line. Only retrieval fixes that.

Passages get quoted, not pages

Retrieval works on chunks. A self-contained, clearly headed paragraph with a real fact in it is the unit that gets pulled into an answer.

Off-site sources carry weight

Assistants read directories, reviews, forums, transcripts and press, not just your website. Your reputation elsewhere becomes their description of you.

Straight Talk

Four things you will hear that are wrong

“AI search killed SEO.”

AI answers are built on retrieval, and retrieval runs on the same crawlable, well-structured, authoritative pages SEO has always produced. Studies of AI Overviews consistently find heavy overlap between cited sources and top organic results. SEO became the prerequisite, not the casualty.

“GEO, AEO, AIO and LLMO are four different services.”

They are competing labels coined by different people for substantially the same work: making your content retrievable, quotable and trustworthy to machine readers. Anyone selling them as four separate retainers is selling you the same deliverable four times.

“Just publish more AI-written articles.”

Models are trained on the open web and are unimpressed by more of it. What earns citations is what a model cannot generate itself: original data, first-hand experience, named expert quotes, real photography and verifiable specifics.

“If nobody clicks, visibility is worthless.”

Zero-click answers still shape the shortlist. Being the brand an assistant names, before a buyer ever opens a browser tab, is top-of-funnel positioning that competitors bidding on ads cannot buy their way into.
